PHP Web Programmer / Database Design and Implementation (MySQL) in academic research laboratory

A PHP Web Developer position is available in Dr. Daniel Sinnett’s laboratory at the
Sainte-Justine UHC Research Centre. The candidate will assist the bioinformatics team
and research staff with maintenance, improvement, and development of key internally
developed tools and existing websites, as well as planning and implementation of new
projects ranging from application interfaces to database development, website design
and integration of third party tools. The tasks that will be assigned will depend on the
needs of the group, as well as the experience and interest of the candidate. Working
under the project supervisor and bioinformatics’ manager, this person’s main
responsibilities will be the following:

  • Develop, implement and maintain applications with PHP
  • Database design and implementation with MySQL
  • Participate in enhancements to existing applications
  • Definition of project requirements
  • Technical documentation


The candidate will have a Diploma in Computer Science and at least three (3) years of
experience in PHP programming and other web technologies such as Javascript and
CSS. Candidates must be comfortable with the design and implementation of MySQL
databases and have knowledge of programming and scripting languages like Perl and
Java. Expertise with UNIX/Linux operating system and CMS interface is a plus.
Equivalencies that consist of a combination of education, knowledge, skills and abilities
to formal education and experience requirements will be considered.
